Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. (Matthew 5:17 NLT)

By 1863, the Civil War had devastated the Union ranks. What seemed like a simple victory over the upstart Southerners was turning into a disaster. Then Lincoln appointed Grant over the Union Army & everything changed. Where other generals failed, Grant succeeded in great fashion.

Christ’s commitment to us in his coming was to fulfill what we could not: the ability to live blamelessly holy. By living the standard that no one else could, He blazed a path for the rest of us to follow. While we will never do it perfectly, we can do it authentically, by repenting over our failures without destroying our own morale & by depending upon His strength and guidance instead of trying to do it on our own, which inevitably leads to quitting.

The Christ Life is not an easy path; the road away from Heaven is. Choose to succeed where others haven’t by placing your dependence upon the One whose footsteps you’re trekking. Jesus didn’t live to just fulfill a duty, He was showing you how to live! Live knowing that just as Jesus made it, you will too by simply following his trail! You are loved today! (1/7/14)
