Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.” (1 John 4:1 NLT)

[Martin] Luther is the first man to raise against the Pope and the organisation of the Church. It was the first of the great revolutions. And thanks to his translation of the Bible, Luther replaced our dialects by the great German language.”

This quote by Adolf Hitler is one of several that caused over 40 million Protestant Germans & several Church denominations to fall for Nazism as “the will of God”. As we know, scores of atrocities were committed by the Nazis & were condoned by the Church. Hitler even executed some 6,000 pastors, some who stood by him!

One who saw the light, though, was Martin Niemoller. While at first supporting Hitler from his pulpit, The Lord helped him to see the truth of Hitler’s actions. When he was publicly executed in 1945, he penned these famous words:

First they came for the Communists, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up, because I wasn’t a Jew.
Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up, because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me, and by that time there was no one left to speak up for me.”

Test everything that is said about or for God. You do it by how the Holy Spirit bears witness to your seeking heart & by what God’s word says. Emotions can be manipulated & God’s Word twisted, but God shows Truth to whoever will seek it! Live the Christ Life Christ’s way! You are loved!
