They cried for help, but there was no one to save them— to the Lord, but he did not answer.” (Psalm 18:41 NIV)
In his devotional, My Utmost for His Highest, Oswald Chambers introduces us to a unique term, spiritual lust. He explains it this way:
Lust means ‘I must have it at once.’ Spiritual lust causes me to demand an answer from God, instead of seeking God Himself who gives the answer…Whenever we insist that God should give us an answer to prayer, we are off track. The purpose of prayer is that we get ahold of God, not of the answer.”
Most of us are guilty of this, demanding from God instead of knowing His mind, drawing close to His presence. Being selfish by nature, we want what we want & when we want it. But by trekking Christ’s steps, we must realize that it is no longer about what we want.
By learning the term “spiritual lust”, do you see areas in your own life of such a thing? Go to God, letting Him correct it. Then when you pray, let your focus be on the Lord, not just your need. He will be there to meet it, but His greater desire is to be with you! You are loved today!
