Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden In the day of the Lord ’s anger. (Zephaniah 2:3 NKJV)

On May 30, 1999, the NATO airstrikes in Serbia put a stop to the crimes against the Albanians in Kosovo 15 years ago. But the bombs also killed many civilians. In the village of Varvarin, people still remember the attacks. While it saved the nation, the collateral damage affected thousands of lives.

We serve a God that still intervenes on our behalf; vengeance is His to repay, not us. But if we live more worldly and less godly, staying too close to those He’s protecting us from, we can become unnecessary collateral damage, like Sampson, Lot’s wife, or King Josiah of the Old Testament. By staying too close to compromise, we can also be swept up in the broom of God’s judicial cleaning.

As Christians, we must walk a fine line of not reveling in the secular, nor secluding ourselves away from reaching out to it either. Only God can help us be in the world but not of it. Live holy to live free from fallout. You are loved and watched over!
