Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.” (Genesis 4:2 NKJV)
There is a faulty notion that I’ve heard before, that behind the Cain-Abel conflict was that Cain’s offering was rejected by God because it was of plants, that God desired a blood sacrifice from among the sheep instead. This, however, is wrong. Cain’s sacrifice was not accepted because it was not the best from among his produce, he was keeping that for himself, while his brother gave his best lamb to God.
What God desires from you is not the leftovers of your time, offerings, or effort. God gives you His very best, and then desires to receive that from you. Selfishness is the same root that we suffer from today as in Cain’s day.
Do you give God your very best? God’s not content with the scraps of effort we throw Him, even if we are content to give it. Unworthy sacrifices are not met with choice blessings, but with rejection. Instead of getting mad at God for lack of blessing, begin searching yourself; we are always the root of the problem. Give God your best, knowing He gives it in return! You are loved today!
