I will gladly spend myself and all I have for you.” (2 Corinthians 12:15 NLT)

I remember when I first experienced extended care workers assigned to special needs students at a school that I substitute taught at. Children with severe handicaps were placed with a caregiver that stayed with them from Kindergarten until graduation. For over a decade, these wonderful people would give themselves daily that these children would have a good quality childhood and help for the struggling parents.

Paul describes that as a believer, he willingly sacrificed himself for others for extended periods so that new believers would grow spiritually. Many in our churches have no desire to wade through the time-consuming and messy process of discipleship due to the thankless nature of it. But if we don’t, many then fall away from God or live in a place of apathy when they could grow to replicate the process if someone would make the sacrifice for them.

As you go into the weekend, take time to consider what time you have left in this life. Determine to spend the remainder of your days on selfless pursuits that enrich peoples lives instead of selfish pleasures that bless no one. Selflessness leads to greater satisfaction! You are loved today!
