Then one of the servants answered and said, ‘Look, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, who is skillful in playing, a mighty man of valor, a man of war, prudent in speech, and a handsome person; and the LORD is with him.'” (I Samuel 16:18 NKJV)
God had rejected Saul as King and had Samuel anoint David as the future King. As Saul was being tormented spiritually due to his disobedience, his advisors suggested a worship musician as a remedy. Interestingly, notice the way the advisors described David while he was still a kid in the sheep pen: Warrior? Valor? Spiritual MAN?!
Before David became these things in our eyes with his fascinating exploits, he was already that way to the locals by how he lived his everyday life, even as a young man. By facing obstacles in the field and with family, he was allowing himself to be set apart by God and building a reputation, and probably had no clue that anyone was even watching him! But they were and it made a difference.
Live this week knowing that people are watching. How you handle successes and setbacks either inspires others or molds them into bad habits. Be a person worth watching! They already are, so show them the right way! You are loved!
