This corroded treasure you have hoarded will testify against you on the day of judgment.” (James‬ ‭5‬:‭3‬ NLT)

In an article by National Review Online, a study was made of the charitable giving by politicians and their parties. The results were ironic. The liberals that claim to do the most for the poor actually do the least, personally and party wise. The top ten states to give were all conservative states. The moral of the narrative? One side of the aisle talks about helping, the other side actually does it.

When God blesses us financially, it’s not so we can just accumulate more stuff. Our faithfulness does lead to more personal blessings, but it also means God desires to give more through you to the needs of those around you. While savings accounts are good and prudent, we must ask ourselves whether our “rainy day funds” are really ours to store. And the worst ones to accumulate against God’s desires to give? Churches with lots of personal prudence but little Kingdom priority.

As you begin your weekend and that dreaded time of back-to-school shopping, make sure your finances are aligned with God’s plan. The first 10% belongs to God. Then consider if God would like for you to meet the needs of someone around you. Afterwards, enjoy what God has blessed you with! The more faithful you live, the blessed you become! You are loved today!
