God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things…so that no one may boast before Him.” (1 Corinthians 1:28-29 NIV)
One of the greatest pictures in my mind of this scripture occurred in the week of August 31-September 5 of 1997. In that brief week, Princess Diana of Wales and the matronly saint, Mother Teresa, died; one trying to outrun the paparazzi with her alleged lover, the other surrounded on her deathbed by those she impacted for God. One was immortalized for her beauty and spunk, the other for her compassionate care.
The majority of the world focused on the princess instead of the pauper. But I believe Heaven did the opposite. Mother Teresa reached out in compassion to help the poor, needy and dying in India, giving up her life and ambitions to help others. To the world, this is foolishness, yet her life displays a greater peace, satisfaction and accomplishment than that of the princess.
Are you jealous of what others have? The greater the calling sometimes translates into having lesser things to distract our life with. Don’t envy others, instead thank God for how He desires to use you where others could never go. Sometimes the smallest pebble creates the greatest waves! You are loved! Have a wonderful weekend!
