I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die.” (Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭20‬ NLT)

Jon Burge was a former Chicago Police detective and commander who, along with the “Midnight Crew” of officers under his command, allegedly beat and tortured criminal suspects in the 1970s and ’80s in order to gain confessions. At one point Burge was highly decorated and well respected. Not anymore.

Past performance on our part does not always translate into a guaranteed future. Unfortunately, churches are full of people who have served God with great passion only to become a slim spiritual shade of themselves years later. The Christ Life is not one that is simply contented on past works but must be continued with a steady, undying passion all our life.

Noted pastor and author, Andy Stanley, speaks of spiritual boldness this way: “Past boldness is no assurance of future boldness. Boldness demands continual reliance on God’s spirit.” By staying in relationship with Christ, you run a greater chance of staying passionate and avoiding burnout. So stay close! You are loved today!
