My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin.” (1 John‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬ NLT)

We are familiar with John Steinbeck’s works, such as Of Mice And Men and The Grapes Of Wrath. But one of his best works was a letter to his teenage son, Thom, who had written of his feelings for a girl at boarding school in 1958: “First — if you are in love — that’s a good thing — that’s about the best thing that can happen to anyone. Don’t let anyone make it small or light to you.” The whole letter is a very touching fatherly moment from a famous man’s private life.

As the Apostle John was writing this letter to churched people, his fatherly concern was that they were not being committed enough in love to Christ, allowing old ways and habits to creep back in to their changed life. So, he does the only thing he can do from such a long distance away: He writes a letter from his heart.

When you love people, you will reach out to them in whatever relevant way you can in order to meet a need. Take time this week to write a note, text, email, or give a call to someone you love. Don’t let moments pass you by when you could be impacting someone’s life with your interaction. You are loved and made to show it!
