Pastor Mike’s Minute Message: The Day American Law Threw God Away

“Your laws are perfect and completely trustworthy. I am overwhelmed with indignation, for my enemies have disregarded your words.” ‭‭(Psalms‬ ‭119:138-139‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

This past week saw Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis thrown in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. Disturbing as that whole scenario is (being jailed for your Christian beliefs), even more appalling was the statement issued by U.S. District Judge David Bunning, noted in the Friday edition of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazzette: “The idea of natural law (God’s law) superseding this court’s authority would be a dangerous precedent indeed.”

Sadly, this is what we are reduced to. Ignoring the fact that ALL of America’s legal foundations and rules of law were based upon God’s own laws as expressed through the Bible, we now see the heart of America’s dilemma, which is that Man and his varied opinions are now viewed as above the Creator’s. Fascinating…

The indignation of King David should be the indignation within our own hearts too. Sadly, I’m afraid it won’t be. Remember, that as Christians, we are held to a higher standard of accountability to a God that is watching. Then, come November, remember who stands against God’s laws as you enter the polling stations. May God have mercy on us today.

  1. Archon's Den says:

While it may be comforting to believe, America’s foundations and laws were not based on the Bible. They were formed by intelligent, God-fearing men who saw the need to separate Church from State. Render unto Caesar!
Davis took an oath on the Bible to perform her duties. I understand her concern, but if her sworn oath holds no value, then perhaps her Bible holds none either. Four-times married, she’s a three-time adulteress, who wants her pay, and the prestige of the job, (and now her 15 minutes in the spotlight), but doesn’t have the class to resign. 😦

    • Thank you for your comments! While it may be comforting to disbelieve, there is WAY too much evidence to the contrary that America was founded upon the religious principles of the Bible, bearing witness and quotes from those same God-fearing men you mentioned, their own written works, and even etched into our most prominent government buildings and memorials. Any separation that they tried to make was to keep the State out of the Church, one of the foundational reasons for leaving England in the first place.
As to Davis’ life, it will speak for itself, since I am not her judge. She did swear an oath & is bound to perform it. Yet, she would not be the first, nor undoubtedly the last, to practice civil disobedience. She had two choices: comply or go to jail. She chose the latter. Me personally, I believe that I would have resigned. But the greater issue is when Society’s laws contradict God’s laws, there is a true moral problem. Even the presiding judge for the case said that natural law will never trump his court’s authority. That’s pretty frightening territory.
Anyways, again, thank you for your comments!
