I have told you these things so that you won’t abandon your faith.” (John‬ ‭16‬:‭1‬ NLT)

Some days, ministry makes you feel helpless. I watched a man go back to his “easier” sinful lifestyle because He couldn’t handle having the Devil as his enemy. I endured seeing a Pastor leave the ministry and eventually kill himself and his wife, not being able to kick a renewed drug habit and chronic depression that God had delivered him from years earlier. I saw a woman leave her godly husband for another man, wanting a new and exciting life, one she felt like she couldn’t have while being a Christian. Like I said, some days it can be rough.

In our text, the term “abandon your faith” is the Greek word, skandalizo, a root the we use for our word “scandal”. It means to be tripped up and fall away intentionally from a place of faithfulness. We are not slaves, held by God against our will. We must choose to not sin, nor to sin to the degree that we eventually walk away from God’s grace. We must remember what a hell our lives were prior to God so that we can be confident knowing that this life, with all of its trials, it still better than what we had!

As you begin your week, start by realizing that before your foot ever hit the floor, Satan was already gunning for you! But God was up all night planning your best day for you! Live in God’s great love today! You will overcome because you are loved!
