For the word of God is…a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭12‬ NKJV)

**WARNING: This Could Offend!**

The Bible is the most revered, most misunderstood, and the most underused book we have in our possession. A Pew Research poll in 2010 found that most Christians ranked only SLIGHTLY higher than Athiests in familiarity with New Testament scriptures and Jesus’ teachings! “Americans revere the Bible but, by and large, they don’t read it,” wrote George Gallup Jr. and Jim Castelli, whose poll research was focused on religion in America.

While the Bible does reveal who God is, it also reveals who we are, something we really don’t like. We shout about faith, comfort, and provision, but then shrug at forgiveness, tithing, and even church attendance! I’ve even seen people use scripture to viciously attack tattoos (Lev. 19:28), while ignoring the prohibition against an all-you-can-eat shrimp buffet (Lev. 11:9-12 & Prov. 23:20-21)! If we are a people of God’s word, we must read, accept, and live all of it, even the parts that hit us where we live.

Let the Bible do what is was made to do, bringing comfort and conviction that leads to godliness. It’s your best guide for a better life! You are loved!

Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.” (Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭10‬ NLT)

Back in 2012, the R&B star, Usher, claimed a delusional woman was stalking him and constantly showing up uninvited to his Georgia home. Usher eventually had to obtain a restraining order against 26-year-old Darshelle Jones-Rakestraw who claimed she was married to the singer. She assumed her attentions would stir his heart, only to find his lawyer stirred up instead!

We run into trouble when we try to please God by what we THINK God approves or condones. The only guide we have for pleasing the Lord is the Bible; anything else is simply presumptuous. Just because you do something “in Jesus name” or claim that He “knows your heart” doesn’t mean He approves! Our devotion isn’t shown by actions but by a true, daily, vibrant personal relationship.

Do as the Bible says, carefully determine what pleases God’s heart and leave opinion out. By searching God’s words, you’ll easily find the way to His heart and secure His blessings. Ms. Jones-Rakestraw got a rude awakening by operating in belief instead of facts. Don’t be like that! Know your God! You are loved by Him!

For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.” (Isaiah‬ ‭55‬:‭9‬ NLT)

Jim brokers and sells used cars. He’s been in the business for many years. Sitting in his office is a book entitled “Everything I Know About Selling Cars”, but when you open it up, the pages are blank! In his words, just when you think you’ve seen it all, things change. His next book like it will be entitled “Everything That Men Know about Women”…

When I hear someone say, “Oh, I know all about that Jesus-Bible-Religion thing”, I shake my head out of equal parts humor and frustration. We think of God like He’s human, subject to all of our whims and failures. But just as we are much different from animals, so is God from us. He is way beyond our flaws, the best of what we desire to be! To know Him means we must change how we approach Him.

The best way to know God is to read the Bible. As you do, strip away the preconceived notions and prejudices that you normally associate with people and instead be open to a better idea. God is truly amazing and you are loved today! Start learning!

Haven’t you read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry?” (Luke‬ ‭6‬:‭3‬ NLT)

I sat in the meeting with my Pastor just shaking my head. He informed me, with a smirk, that a woman had complained about me. Nothing new, some folks just can’t be pleased, particularly when they believe they could do it better because they’ve sat in a pew for 40 years. But when you make a biblical accusation, shouldn’t it at least be in the Bible?!

All of us deal with some level of biblical ignorance, especially in regards to very deep, specific issues. But we’ll never please God if our main learnings stem from how we feel or what we’ve heard others say. To know God means to be in His word. Period. To use any other method to know God is unwise when the Bible is so accessible and time-tested.

My reputation wound up being safe. Apparently her Bible study material included the National Enquirer. Ask God to help you fall in love with His words. In them is your hope, your work, and even your destiny! You are loved! Study on!

Scripture corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16, 17 NLT)

As I sat in a football stadium in East Texas last night for a high school graduation, I watched the students be challenged by school leadership and encouraged by their classmates as they received their reward for academic diligence. But I wondered, did they understand that the diploma wasn’t the goal of final achievement? School was never about reaching a final end, only marking the spot where new learning and life teaching begins.

Many view salvation and graduation in the same mindset, as an end instead of as a beginning. The Bible only begins to take on relevance after our spiritual journey with Christ starts. It is God’s assurance that we can be equipped for whatever life throws at us, and to handle it in a God-pleasing fashion.

Summertime means vacation, especially after a long school year. Even if you take a break from educational pursuits, never decide to take one from God or His Words. It is your means to a better life daily! And one day, we will have another graduation, which will stand for eternity! You are loved today!
