“O God, you know how foolish I am; my sins cannot be hidden from you.” (Psalms‬ ‭69:5‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

On April 19, 1995, a truck packed with a powerful fertilizer bomb exploded outside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people, including 18 children. Ironically, the bomber, Timothy McVeigh, was arrested about 90 minutes later for driving without a license and illegally carrying a concealed weapon. No one knew his real crime!

Days later, as McVeigh was about to have his hearing and make bail, something unforeseen saved the day. The judge’s son missed his school bus, causing the judge to delay the hearing in order to take the child to school. In that short window, the FBI found out McVeigh was still at the courthouse and asked the police to detain him! How close is that?!

While knowledge of our sins may be withheld from others, God still sees. Don’t cover it up anymore! Take it to God for forgiveness and deliverance! Otherwise, it will come out! You are loved today!

“By justice a king gives a country stability, but those who are greedy for bribes tear it down.” (Proverbs‬ ‭29‬:‭4‬ NIV)

As I sat in a surgical waiting room yesterday, I was entranced by the chaos I saw breaking out on the television. Baltimore was being torn apart at the seams. With recent accusations of people dying because of police brutality, it has caused much tension and rioting in different parts of the nation. While I am a firm supporter of our Brothers in Blue, I do know that there are some loose guns and low morals in certain segments of authority, albeit a small number in my opinion. Yet, just one rotten apple can mess up things for the rest.

When leadership is bad, it tends to corrupt whatever it touches. Yet when it is good, it seeks to uplift those it oversees. But if godly people aren’t voting or lifting up our nation in prayer, how can we expect right or righteous things to take place? Evil does certainly reign when good people do nothing, especially in places of authority!

Take time to lift up our nation’s tumult to God. Pray for your national, state, and civic leaders, as well as the community you are in. And ask God to intervene and shutdown the anger and rioting we are seeing. Bad things followed by bad things will never lead to good things. Lord, let your love be felt in our nation today!

For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John‬ ‭8‬:‭44‬ NLT)

Last night, my sons played football against a neighboring town whose mascot is the Red Devils. It has always mystified me as to how a town down here in the Bible Belt of the South would choose such a negative character to represent their community! My wife and I agreed that it was probably used to intimidate and strike fear in the hearts of their competitive rivals.

The problem is that we become what we tend to identity with. This includes clubs, groups, and even political affiliations. As the old saying goes, “If you lay down with dogs, you’ll wake up with fleas.” This is very true, especially spiritually. As Christ Life ambassadors, we must be careful that we are influencing, not being influenced.

As you go about your weekend, gauge what makes you more or less passionate for God. To me, the haunts of Halloween are mild compared to the horrors of the daily doors we leave upon for dark influences. Live to be true children of your Heavenly Father! You are loved today!

When Athaliah, the mother of King Ahaziah of Judah, learned that her son was dead, she began to destroy the rest of the royal family.” (2 Kings 11:1 NLT)

In this story, the Queen realized that she was now the Monarch of the kingdom, not the spouse or mother of the King. To seal her power, she began killing anyone that could threaten her reign, even her own children and grandchildren. What on earth could make a woman turn into a complete assassin of her kids?

In this case, Power. It has a corrosive quality when placed inside a human vessel made of weaker, lesser stuff. The historian and moralist, Lord Acton, expressed this opinion in a letter to Bishop Mandell Creighton in 1887:

Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Great men are almost always bad men.”

Be careful to not desire power, but accept only what God brings your way. Even in spiritual positions, the anointing upon you will destroy you if Character isn’t within you to sustain you. True leaders lead with love & you are loved today by the Great King!
