My days are like the evening shadow; I wither away like grass. But you, Lord, sit enthroned forever; your renown endures through all generations. You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her; the appointed time has come.” (Psalm‬ ‭102‬:‭11-13‬ NIV)

As we sat in the car, you could feel the agony in the atmosphere. “Robert” no longer cared what anyone, even God, thought about him. His addiction meant more to him that family or career. That abandonment moment would last for several years, leaving many scars. Yet, could he change?

The scripture paints a picture of a man in deep dejection, loneliness, despair. He feels his life is ebbing away like the evening shadows and there’s so little time left for him. He says, “I’m withering away like grass.” Have you ever felt like that? And what do you do if you ever feel like that?

Robert’s life eventually turned around, but only after great prices were paid. Do what the psalmist did instead. He looked away from himself, his own situation, he lifted up his eyes to the Lord and he saw the Lord by faith, on His throne, and he realized that the Lord doesn’t change with our situations and circumstances. The Lord is always on His throne! He never abdicates; He’s always in total control! Rest in His care and control! You are loved!

This town is located in pleasant surroundings, as you can see. But the water is bad, and the land is unproductive.” (2 Kings‬ ‭2‬:‭19‬ NLT)

It was one of those Mike-is-a-Moron  moments that happens WAY too often. My car just wasn’t running well: slow taking off, slowing down quickly when letting off the accelerator, sluggish in every aspect. And every where I went, it smelled like someone was burning a cat! My frustration meter was pinging like a fire alarm! And then I saw it. My emergency brake had been mashed and never released. All I could do was pop the pedal and shake my head. Problem solved.

Sometimes we wonder why our life stays off kilter. All the ingredients for good living are there, so why do I seem held back? Usually it’s because of internal problems in us, like a knack for negative thinking, a need for control, or being prone to fall for certain temptations. These issues, whatever they are, prevent us from living optimally and happily. If not dealt with, your life will be filled with nothing but failure and depression.

Are there areas of your life in which you repeatedly experience defeat and frustration? Does there seem to be an obstacle or barrier holding you back from the victories you hope to experience? Is it a struggle for you to be productive in certain aspects of your life? Let God give you a much-needed Life Inspection so you can be free. Life’s too short to stay down! Live well! You are loved today!

Fear and trembling overwhelm me, and I can’t stop shaking. Oh, that I had wings like a dove; then I would fly away and rest!” (Psalms‬ ‭55‬:‭5-6‬ NLT)

It was just one of the “Perfect Storm” moments. You know, where about 5 stressful, painful situations all came to a head in a day. Any one of these alone were brutal, but all at once?! And there I was, a grown man, sitting on my couch, home alone, with a blanket over my head so I could hide and cry, wishing I could sprout wings and fly away, never to hurt again.

We all reach those breaking points; it’s not “un-normal”. Just as the psalmist desired to run away, we do too. But fear is a cruel task master, one that must be broken or else it will seep like a contagious disease into every other area of our life. No other sin destroys faith like fear, yet nothing pleases the Father’s heart like faith.

So, you have a choice: stay lingering in fear, our take a measured step of faith towards a deliverance. You can’t be brave on your own, you must let God make you brave. As Ephesians 6 says, when you’ve done all you can, just stand still. Then in that place of calm surrender, God will fight your battle and win! Never give up, never surrender! You are strong today!

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (Isaiah‬ ‭26‬:‭3‬ NLT)

From 2005-2009, 6 pastors in the Carolinas attempted suicide, with at least 4 succeeding. While not everyone with depression attempts suicide, most all suicides are depression sufferers, which according to the AMA is roughly 20,000 per year. Studies also show that chronic depression affects 25% of clergy, as high as the general population.

While some cases of the blues are caused by chemical imbalances in the body, most is just the beat down of daily life. Satan uses our discouragements to his advantage, twisting us up even more. And while it is easy to stay focused on our problems, the Bible points out our way to good mental health: Keeping your mind stayed on the God of our deliverance instead of the circumstances of our bondage!

You’ll never find a life free from turmoils, but you can limit them by living the Christ Life right. Ask God today to help your mind to stay on Him and His words of peace and blessing, instead of obsessing over your issues. Life is better for the living when it’s done right! You are loved today! Enjoy it!

Her mightiest warriors no longer fight. They stay in their barracks, their courage gone. They have become like women.” (Jeremiah‬ ‭51‬:‭30‬ NLT)

I remember the day, one of the lowest in my life. The words and actions of people over a 3 year period had done their damage. As I sat on my friend’s couch, one of the greatest pastor’s I’d ever met, I was at my lowest in despair, humiliated, and ready to not just quit but to die. Where only 3 years earlier I was a ministry warrior getting things done for God, now I was just done.

If you’ve never reached that point in the Christ Life, then hang in there, you will! It takes a lot out of you to fight true spiritual battles. It’s the very reason Jesus withdrew often into lonely places, so He could regroup in a place of undisturbed communion with the Father. By regularly decompressing, it insured that His spiritual and emotional health could stay strong instead of becoming like me, completely destroyed by a paralyzed faith.

We are not all-powerful, but we are rechargeable! You must take time everyday to get alone with God, safely pouring out the pain and frustration so He can carry it for you. Only then can your mind find the healing and peace it needs. Be strong, not sidelined! You are loved today!
