Then his disciples said, ‘From this we believe…Jesus asked, ‘Do you finally believe?'” (John‬ ‭16‬:‭29-31‬ NLT)

Some years ago, I heard a man affiliated with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Ministry speak of the millions who came to God through their incredible crusades over the decades and around the world. But with remorse, he made a confession: By their own estimates, only less than 2% of those who made decisions for Christ actually committed themselves to living the Christ Life.

In my own mind, I recalled several televised crusades from my childhood where teary-eyed souls would stream to the platform to pray a prayer, never giving another thought to the fact that the “experience” of the moment would be abandoned due to never plugging into a local church and a discipleship process.

God is so much more than an experience! In this text, the disciples have lived the previous three years in a very emotional place with a mighty Savior. But while they claimed to believe, it was a belief born without testing, without pain or sacrifice. His response: You don’t believe enough because you are about to leave Me (v. 32).

Your belief in the Lord, His abilities, and His power cannot stem from good feelings or academic knowledge, but from a tested and true relationship with Him. Any thought of belief apart from this is wishful thinking on our part. When you arise from the testing grounds, you will stand knowing that God is real because you endured and remain! Never settle for anything less! You are genuinely loved today!

In everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently endure troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind.” (2 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭4‬ NLT)

There is a false notion among many believers that we will be spared of hard times because we are growing as believers. The opposite is actually more truthful. By aligning with Christ, we now make the Demonic our Enemy #1, which makes us there’s as well. Our faith that sustains us, according to the Bible, is the “stench of death” to those choose to not live it. And then, of course, there’s Life, with all of its glorious bruises, flat tires, heartbreakers, and other assorted conundrums.

According to this text, we show our true spiritual strength and character by triumphing over our pain. Christian author Norman Vincent Peale spoke of our ability to arise over pain this way: “The key to surviving adversity is to develop resilience. Resilience is just another word for your rebound, your comeback power, your ability to stand up to adversity and handle it creatively.”

As you come to church today, come ready to find your resiliency. If our troubles paralyze our faith, then our faith will never win. But our allowing Christ to help us take one baby step after another will soon lead us back to a stronger faith and a break from the storm. You are loved today! Hang in there!

So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin. ” (Romans‬ ‭7‬:‭25‬ NLT)

Former Luzerne County (Pennsylvania) Judge Mark Ciavarella was found guilty on felony corruption charges. The 61-year-old judge is heading to federal prison for 28 years for an apparent prison kick-back scheme and possible tax evasion of over $1,000,000. Who would’ve thought it…

Apparently the Apostle Paul did. He knew what was right and wanted to do it. But even with good intentions, he also knew the power of temptation and how prone we all are to fall for it. Desire does not always translate to obedience, especially when we want to do the things we’re not supposed to!

As you walk your spiritual journey, understand that anytime you are in charge, you will always blow it. We know to do right, yet we often fail by faulty willpower. It then requires us to be dependent on God to help us say “No!” because we cannot on our own. Give God the chance to help you be strong, especially where you fail the worst! You are loved to overcome today!
