In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew‬ ‭5:16‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

On Aug. 8, a Starkville, MS, couple was arrested for conspiring and attempting to give material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – ISIL (now being called the Islamic State). Jaelyn Delshaun Young, 20 and Muhammad Oda Dakhlalla, 22, were charged with the crimes. When residents of Vicksburg, MS, found out, people were shocked. How could Young, a hometown girl, become a terrorist sympathizer? She was one of us!

All around us are people looking for something to live for. Even in the Bible Belt, some have grown weary of weak religion and are looking in other places. At the same time, Jesus is continuously reaching out to bring them home. But He needs real hands, real hearts, real Christ Life relationships, and real churches to bring them to. Are you that kind of person? Is your church that kind of place?

Be that person that creates life personally and in your house of worship! People are dying for something to live for. Lift Christ up honorably so He can draw them in Himself! You are loved today! (8/31/15)

“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” (Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭16‬ NLT)

Ahhh, the Bahamas. The coastal attraction of the masses. Thousands flock to its sanctuary every year to escape the doldrums of life. Where else can you see such beautiful beaches, pristine waters, swimming pigs…wait! What?! Pigs?!

Apparently out on Big Major Cay, an uninhabited island, a population of aquatic swine have made headlines. There are various theories on how the wild pigs first got to the island, but they certainly thrive there. They’ve come to associate humans with food and are rumored to be quite friendly. Upon spotting an incoming boat, the pigs leap into the water and paddle over, hoping for a snack.

Pigs in paradise is an oddity. But apparently so is being a person of godly, moral character. We are to be different for a reason! Let Christ shine in you so that people are drawn to the difference of how you live! You are loved today!

And these were his officials…Azariah the son of Nathan, over the officers; Zabud the son of Nathan, a priest and the king’s friend; (‭I Kings‬ ‭4‬:‭2, 5‬ NKJV)

What are the odds of raising two children who grow up to become number one NFL draft picks, as well as Super Bowl Champions and MVPs in back-to-back seasons? Pretty slim! Yet, Archie Manning, himself a star quarterback at Ole Miss and former NFL quarterback with the New Orleans Saints, raised Peyton and Eli, QBs for Denver and New York, to play hard and disciplined, to work and to achieve. Apparently Mr. & Mrs. Manning did something right!

There’s something to be said about family legacy. With the Mannings, it’s football. But with the prophet Nathan, it’s in serving God by serving Israel’s king. Nathan was the one that confronted King David about his sin with Bathsheba, and was there to ordain Solomon as David’s successor. And then in this little inconspicuous laundry list of employees, we find his two boys serving as King’s Leaders, one even being honored with the title of “the king’s friend”!

Parents, raise your kids right! Don’t adopt the fail-strategy of “Do as I say, not as I do”. Instead, like Nathan the prophet and Archie the quarterback, lead your kids to become quality citizens and first-rate Christians by setting the example for them to follow. The apples rarely fall far from the tree! You are loved today!

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ NLT)

From the last Monday of August to the first Monday of September, a phenomenon occurs in the Black Rock Desert outside Reno, NV, known as Burning Man. A Woodstock Festival for a newer generation, tens of thousands of people will descend upon the dry lake bed for a wild week of whatever-go’s in the name of artistic self-expression, culminating in the burning of a huge wooden man.

John Wesley is reported to have once said, “Catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to see you burn.” But the burning Wesley is speaking of isn’t a gesture of self-expression, but to be consumed with a passion for God! In a culture absorbed with self and selfies, it’s a refreshing sight to see a stance for something greater than narcissism, and even more unique when it’s genuinely about God.

If your journey is on the Christ Life path, become “The Burning Man” for those around you. By allowing the Holy Spirit to saturate your life, you will burn with God’s vision for reaching the lost. May God help us to be on fire for Him and allow others to be drawn to His flame! You are loved today!

Who brought you here, and what are you doing in this place? Why are you here?” (Judges‬ ‭18‬:‭3‬ NLT)

On June 5, 1989, a single man impacted a world. As a column of tanks drove down Chang’an Avenue to put down a protest at Tiananmen Square in China, an unknown man came out from a crowd and blocked their path, positioning himself to prevent the tanks from maneuvering around him. Eventually he was pulled back into the crowd, but not before his stand was immortalized for the world to see, even being listed by Time Magazine as one of the Top 100 most influential people of the 20th century.

The “Why” questions of our text are questions we ask ourselves all through our life. To find the answer, we must live it out before God. Our life may be to spend years helping others, like Mother Teresa. It may be to empower people, like Martin Luther King, Jr. Or it might be that for one brief but influential moment, we take our stand for what is right.

We are that Unknown Rebel, standing our ground for what is right in God’s eyes before a world bent on not seeing Him. Let God help you answer the “Whys” of your life by letting Him use you to impact others. A life spent helping is a life spent living! You are loved today!

In fact, it was your enthusiasm that stirred up many of the Macedonian believers!” (2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭2‬ NLT)

As a teenager, I watched as my Youth Pastor challenged our youth group to read the whole Bible in a year, only to see scores of adults rise up to the challenge due to the example of the teens. I have watched people give to missions in response to watching a child give what little money they had as a sacrifice. I even met a man that accepted Jesus into his life after watching me, a kid at the time, portray Jesus in a skit, wanting that same compassion that he saw in our drama! Crazy stuff!

The truth is, people do watch Christians to see if we live like we say we believe. Even random acts of kindness can be contagious! By giving hope and making grace beautiful, people are provided an example to follow and will do likewise!

In a day where we are worried about copycat killers or crimes being committed because of negative examples out of the media, wouldn’t it be great to be a part of something wonderful being passed on?! Take time this week, a time for thankfulness, and give simple compliments, gestures of politeness, or even paying forward at a drive-thru fast food line. Know that with faithful living being played out for all to see, it will eventually cause emulation, making others to desire to follow your lead! You are loved today! Start a beautiful trend!

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ NLT)

According to businessinsider.com, Paris’s Musée du Louvre is consistently the world’s most visited museum—and for good reason. The grand art museum houses 35,000 masterpieces, from prehistory to contemporary works. Every year more than 8 million people flock there to enjoy its magnificent treasures, the best of humanity’s artistic accomplishments.

Whether you feel as beautiful as a Rembrandt or an offshoot from one of Picasso’s hot messes, you are still wonderfully made! Live for God’s glory by simply living the life that He sets before you. You are loved today! Be the masterpiece!
