“My child, don’t reject the LORD’s discipline, and don’t be upset when he corrects you.” (Proverbs‬ ‭3:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

Just when you thought that you’ve heard it all…

According to a report in the International Business Times on 8.28.15, two sisters in India, one of whom is only 15-years-old, have been “sentenced” to rape as “punishment” after their brother had an affair with a married woman. An unelected all-male village council in Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, ordered that Meenakshi Kumari, 23, and her teenage sister will also be paraded through the streets naked, with blackened faces, as they are made to pay the price for their brother’s alleged transgressions. And this is the norm for how this council has operated for years. Ugh

According to our text, God does bring punishment for sinful behavior, but never a heinous thing like this! Our God is a loving Father that desires for all His children to do right, like a good Dad should. While His correction fits the sin, it has an ultimate goal: not to bring suffering, but restoration of relationship.

Good parents and right government should both have fair and firm corrective policies. You can’t love without it, otherwise you are only enabling. But I’m grateful that our wonderful Father cares enough to do it the right way and bring our hearts back home! You are loved!

“Remember your promise to me; it is my only hope. Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.” ‭‭(Psalms‬ ‭119:49-50‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

Kashmir Singh, an Indian national, was convicted in the late 1970’s of spying and sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court in Lahore, Pakistan, but the government stayed his execution shortly after. For 35 years, Singh lived on death row until 2008, when he was pardoned by President Pervez Musharraf. An emotional Singh spoke in an interview regarding his time at the Kot Lakhpath jail: “Hope keeps us alive. If there is no hope, then it would be difficult to live.”

Hope is powerful indeed. As Christians, our hope comes from the Lord. Sometimes it comes straight from the pages of His Word, the Bible. Sometimes God gives it to us in another way, maybe through a situation or through a fellow Christian. But in one way or another, God makes Himself available to us in the form of His promises.

If God has given you hope through a promise that is yet to be fulfilled, remind Him of it. He’s not forgetful, but always working according to His plans for us. Reminding God of His words can help bring them to pass because He rewards our persistent cries! You are loved today! Live expecting!

“When people commend themselves, it doesn’t count for much. The important thing is for the Lord to commend them.” ‭‭(2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:18‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Usain Bolt proved his dominance in the 100m and 200m, bringing two gold medals back to Jamaica. But with his personal achievements came his personal praises: “It’s what I came here to do. I’m now a legend, I’m also the greatest athlete to live…I’ve got nothing left to prove. I’ve showed the world I’m the best and, right now, I just want to enjoy myself.”

There’s nothing wrong with being praised for doing a good job. But when egos do the talking, it makes it hard for others to cheer too. Even when someone is truly that spectacular at something, boasting will come back to haunt them.

Self-hatred and arrogance are both deadly traps. You are never as bad, or good, as you think! The greatest praise we can hear comes from our Heavenly Father! He’s ready to applaud your actions! You are loved!

“Your laws are perfect and completely trustworthy. I am overwhelmed with indignation, for my enemies have disregarded your words.” ‭‭(Psalms‬ ‭119:138-139‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

This past week saw Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis thrown in jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. Disturbing as that whole scenario is (being jailed for your Christian beliefs), even more appalling was the statement issued by U.S. District Judge David Bunning, noted in the Friday edition of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazzette: “The idea of natural law (God’s law) superseding this court’s authority would be a dangerous precedent indeed.”

Sadly, this is what we are reduced to. Ignoring the fact that ALL of America’s legal foundations and rules of law were based upon God’s own laws as expressed through the Bible, we now see the heart of America’s dilemma, which is that Man and his varied opinions are now viewed as above the Creator’s. Fascinating…

The indignation of King David should be the indignation within our own hearts too. Sadly, I’m afraid it won’t be. Remember, that as Christians, we are held to a higher standard of accountability to a God that is watching. Then, come November, remember who stands against God’s laws as you enter the polling stations. May God have mercy on us today.

“Blessed are those…”‭‭(Matthew‬ ‭5:6‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

In July of 2014, missionary doctors Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol were diagnosed with Ebola while working with villagers in Liberia, West Africa. After rounds of emergency treatments with an experimental drug, both doctors were declared cured in August by physicians at Emory University Hospital. Why did they live while others did not?

According to The Blaze, Brantly identifies how he believes his life was spared: “He thanked the many people around the world who were praying for his recovery and said that he serves a ‘faithful God who answers prayers.’ It was through medical professionals, the experimental drug and faith that Brantly believes he was healed.”

Does God really intervene on behalf of people? Yes He does! He even uses doctors and medicines. We are blessed when we seek Him, when our reliance is upon Him. We work and do our part, but our faith is that God will have the final say and control. Blessed are those…who live a blessable life! You are loved today!

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”(Genesis‬ ‭1:1‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

In 1909, paleontologist Charles Doolittle Walcott made an amazing find of fossils in Canada. He shipped over 60,000 pieces to the Smithsonian Museum where he kept his find a secret until his death. Once discovered, Walcott’s work was revived and several publications began ballyhooing “Biology’s Big Bang”.

One fascinating report was the Dec. 4, 1995, edition of TIME Magazine, which stated thus:

“In a burst of creativity like nothing before or since, nature appears to have sketched out the blueprints for virtually the whole of the animal kingdom. This explosion of biological diversity is described by scientists as biology’s Big Bang…There is no fossil record of life above the single cell and the brief appearance of the Ediacaran Fauna before the Cambrian explosion. There is no record of new phyla emerging later on, not even in the wake of mass extinction that occurred 250 million years ago, at the end of the Permian period.”

Without transitionary fossils, science is left wondering at the sudden appearance of life. But for the Christian, we know it as Creation, described in Genesis! God has a design for all life, including yours, and it’s still being unveiled today! Study deeper on God’s intelligent designs! You are loved! (9/1/15)

“O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.” (Psalms‬ ‭63:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

Each year, through a unique combination of sun, wind, water, temperatures, and elevations, a miraculous transformation occurs: American deserts begin to bloom! From around March to June, beautiful plants and flowers begin to pop up and open, drawing crowds from around the nation. It’s a beautiful sight to see!

In one of his devotional insights, Greg Rowden has this thought:

“Do you find yourself easily angered, your patience is running thin, and perhaps your optimism has worn down? This happens when we don’t connect with the Lord on a regular basis. Especially during the summer and our schedules get hectic, taking time out to spend with God can be often overlooked.”

Summer fun can lead to a dried up spirit. If you neglect God for vacation, you’ll find your rest not quite as restful! Get with God and into His words today. Come to church if one is nearby! Life can create its own spiritual deserts, but you can choose to make it bloom! Be refreshed in God! You are loved today!
