In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew‬ ‭5:16‬ ‭NIV‬‬)

On Aug. 8, a Starkville, MS, couple was arrested for conspiring and attempting to give material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant – ISIL (now being called the Islamic State). Jaelyn Delshaun Young, 20 and Muhammad Oda Dakhlalla, 22, were charged with the crimes. When residents of Vicksburg, MS, found out, people were shocked. How could Young, a hometown girl, become a terrorist sympathizer? She was one of us!

All around us are people looking for something to live for. Even in the Bible Belt, some have grown weary of weak religion and are looking in other places. At the same time, Jesus is continuously reaching out to bring them home. But He needs real hands, real hearts, real Christ Life relationships, and real churches to bring them to. Are you that kind of person? Is your church that kind of place?

Be that person that creates life personally and in your house of worship! People are dying for something to live for. Lift Christ up honorably so He can draw them in Himself! You are loved today! (8/31/15)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ NLT)

From the last Monday of August to the first Monday of September, a phenomenon occurs in the Black Rock Desert outside Reno, NV, known as Burning Man. A Woodstock Festival for a newer generation, tens of thousands of people will descend upon the dry lake bed for a wild week of whatever-go’s in the name of artistic self-expression, culminating in the burning of a huge wooden man.

John Wesley is reported to have once said, “Catch on fire with enthusiasm and people will come for miles to see you burn.” But the burning Wesley is speaking of isn’t a gesture of self-expression, but to be consumed with a passion for God! In a culture absorbed with self and selfies, it’s a refreshing sight to see a stance for something greater than narcissism, and even more unique when it’s genuinely about God.

If your journey is on the Christ Life path, become “The Burning Man” for those around you. By allowing the Holy Spirit to saturate your life, you will burn with God’s vision for reaching the lost. May God help us to be on fire for Him and allow others to be drawn to His flame! You are loved today!

I will continue to be bold for Christ, as I have been in the past. And I trust that my life will bring honor to Christ, whether I live or die.” (Philippians‬ ‭1‬:‭20‬ NLT)

Jon Burge was a former Chicago Police detective and commander who, along with the “Midnight Crew” of officers under his command, allegedly beat and tortured criminal suspects in the 1970s and ’80s in order to gain confessions. At one point Burge was highly decorated and well respected. Not anymore.

Past performance on our part does not always translate into a guaranteed future. Unfortunately, churches are full of people who have served God with great passion only to become a slim spiritual shade of themselves years later. The Christ Life is not one that is simply contented on past works but must be continued with a steady, undying passion all our life.

Noted pastor and author, Andy Stanley, speaks of spiritual boldness this way: “Past boldness is no assurance of future boldness. Boldness demands continual reliance on God’s spirit.” By staying in relationship with Christ, you run a greater chance of staying passionate and avoiding burnout. So stay close! You are loved today!
