Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.” (Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭3‬ NLT)

Utah State was on their way to taking a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter last night for a possible upset over Oregon in college football. Then the unthinkable happened that changed the game. Utah receiver Kaelin Clay casually dropped the ball a yard before he crossed the goal line! As the Utes celebrated, an Oregon player grabbed the ball and chugged 99 yards down the sideline for a touchdown!

Pride always has a way of biting you when you least need it to. Maybe our life isn’t on display for the nation to watch, but the Lord will eventually allow our pride to catch us. Not that He is mean, but sometimes the only way to find our humble path is to fall on our face!

As you come to church today, come with a humble heart. When God knows that our pride is in check, He begins to lift us up. And if you’re willing, He’ll gently lead you to a right attitude without allowing ESPN to debut your mistakes! You are loved today!

‘Sir,’ the woman said, ‘you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water?'” (John‬ ‭4‬:‭11‬ NIV)

“Pastor, we have way too many Baby Christians and not enough tithers! We need to stop focusing on converts and start reaching out to mature believers, to bring them in instead.” I was a little stunned by what I was hearing. I know this precious person meant well, but their concept of evangelism was what we Pastors actually call “sheep stealing”, which is NOT part of God’s agenda. As I think back to that moment years ago, I still see a frustrated soul who had been in church all their life, yet missed God’s desire by a Mile.

As Jesus ministered to the woman at the well, she also was missing Jesus’ meaning, not grasping the spiritual revelation He was trying to give her. All she could understand was the physical need for water. Yet, because she hung in there, the Lord helped her to eventually see and understand His meaning, which caused this woman of bad character and reputation to become one of Jesus’ greatest evangelists!

Are you guilty of trying to explain away God without truly grasping Him yourself? Often times, we’re the last to know! Spend time in God’s presence today, allowing Him to correct you if necessary. The greatest shame is to know of God but never truly understand Him. Learn the true God of the Bible! You are loved today! Have a great weekend!
